The Miami Dolphins made one of the league’s biggest moves at the NFL trade deadline Tuesday afternoon acquiring edge rusher Bradley Chubb from the Denver Broncos. The Dolphins sent a 2023 1st-round pick (San Francisco 49ers), 2024 4th-round pick & RB Chase Edmonds to the Denver Broncos for Bradley Chubb & a 2025 5th-round pick. The trade at the deadline now gives the Dolphins Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, Emmanuel Ogbah, Melvin Ingram and Andrew Van Ginkel as the team’s top pass rushers. Additionally, the Dolphins added RB Jeff Wilson from the 49ers in exchange for a 2023 5th-round pick. Wilson now pairs back up with Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert as the two were previously teammates in the 49ers’ backfield. Tuesday’s trade deadline deals now ensure a couple of things for the Dolphins moving forward. First, they are definitely all in for a Super Bowl run already this year as they no longer have a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft since besides trading the one they received from the 49ers away to the Broncos in the deal for Chubb, they were forced to forfeit their own 2023 first-round pick as part of the penalty the NFL enforced on the Dolphins for illegally tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton. Second, the move also ensures that the Dolphins are all-in on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Without the 2023 1st-round picks they previously had, the team is now lacking the appropriate amount of ammo to either trade up in the draft to select a quarterback, or package in a deal this upcoming offseason for a proven quarterback. Chubb was the fifth-overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos and proceeded to record 12 sacks in his rookie season. He’s failed to reach double-digit sacks in any single season since, but has recorded 5.5 sacks through eight games this season. Prior to Tuesday’s trade, Jeff Wilson led the 49ers in rushing yards (468), but became expendable after the 49ers acquired Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers a couple of weeks ago. Wilson is 6’0”, 213 lbs and is reunited with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel who previously worked with Wilson while serving as the 49ers offensive coordinator.

  2. I have no opinion on Chubb yet need to see him PLAY on this TEAM first if he wakes up this defense line which has been 😕 other than Phillips who is dropping in coverage half the time this year could be a great power move. Willson was a great trade with him understanding this offense and Edmonds being a dud Wilson should be at fill tilt at most in two weeks hopefully running like Mosterd been and making the passing game unstoppable. If Wilson can take the load off Mostert who physically might not have been able to handle the load he’s now played for a hole season, having him fresh on the field will be big. We now have what looks like two backs with Wilson and Gaskin that can catch the ball if they can that will be big for this offence on the short passing game which was non existent and make this offense possibly almost unstoppable. It’s now a wait and see if these two players can deliver before the bye week. At that point it will be a 👍 or a 👎on each of these trades. I think Grier was handy capped with Flow he has been a new man and making great moves since Flow left 🤔. Now Grier needs to find money and make some majic moves the next two years with trades and has to hit on picks with a small amount of draft picks.

  3. Well to say that today was a very busy and productive one would be a vast understatement. This is a huge trade on so many levels and a big roll of the dice as well. Fortunately, the salary cap is suppose to make historic jumps in the next 3 years. Starting next year and increasing each year after that substantially. You would not have believed another trade that almost happened but unfortunately didn’t. I hate to be cryptic but I have to be careful. These 2 trades were essential for our team to move forward for this season. The big gamble is Tua staying healthy. Getting rid of Edmonds was a big win for Chris Grier and his team. They realized that they made a mistake and were big enough to admit that and cut their losses while getting a big time upgrade along with it. That is very refreshing for a front office to show to its fan base. Tua was in tears because of what the organization was basically saying to him with these 2 trades. I heard it was very moving for all parties. I hope now with the acquisition of Chubbs that can alleviate some of the pressure off of our secondary. It’s a great day for all of us Dolphins fans. These moves will help ignite some more overall positive play and attitudes on the field with bolstering more and more confidence with the players and organization. 🐬👍

  4. Excited they made these trades. I had convinced myself that they wouldn’t do anything. Good thing I’m not a betting man.

  5. They had to do something.

Without blitzing (4 guys or less rushing the QB), they were 29th to 31st in all the applied pressure categories.

Meanwhile, Ogbah, with his big new contract, has been nearly invisible. He can’t get those coverage sacks anymore with CBs Jones out, and Howard hobbled.

Dolphins only have 5.5 sacks through 8 games.

  6. I’m good with the departure of Edmonds. I thought we were okay staying with RBs Gaskin and Ahmed behind Mostert.

But he likes former 49ers and brought in Wilson. I don’t see that we needed more RBs. We need better running lanes. Would have liked a strong offensive linemen.

  8. I believe they think Jones will return to CB soon and will strengthen the back end so adding Chubb to the pass rush was more important. I’m very happy about Wilson I favored him over Hunt because of familiarity with McDaniel. Was hoping for OL help but have been pleasantly surprised by Shell. Who goes to LG?

  9. I will be the who says it….Great job today Chris Grier…but, what about the draft? Your still no hitting on a lot of our picks. You got to hit on a lot of them. 4 picks in 2022…only one has shown he belongs. Two others are either always inactive or play very little. the other is on the practice squad. Still needed a Center & OT depth. So Grier..you can nail free agency(to a point…2020 left a lot to be desired about)…but you really miss via the draft, for the most part.

  10. IF Byron Jones can return you have a top corner and rusher on each side! Where do you throw and how much time do you have to do it? Man Byron needs to get back on the field.
Reminds me of the issues Hill and Waddle create for Ds.
