The offseason commitment tour for the Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa continued Friday afternoon as the Miami Dolphins picked up Tua’s fifth-year option, guaranteeing his $23.4 million salary in 2024.
While numerous quarterbacks including Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers (to name a few) have been linked to the Dolphins this offseason, Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel have pulled through and helped guide the way to the Dolphins now financially committing to Tua for the future.
Along with the news regarding Tua, the Dolphins also restructured the contracts of Terron Armstead, Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb, which paired with the eventual release of Byron Jones (once the new NFL league year begins) will free up between $50-60M this offseason for the Dolphins.
Lastly, the Dolphins signed restricted free-agent Salvon Ahmed to a one-year deal worth up to $1.8M. Ahmed is the only Miami Dolphins running back under contract as we get set for NFL free agency to begin next week. Last year’s leading RB’s, Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert, are both unrestricted free agents (while both have hinted at wanting to be back in Miami in 2023).
